papgust wrote:Hi guys,

Just came out of the test center. A disappointing end yet again - 570 (Q-45, V-23). This is my second attempt and a 70-point improvement from previous attempt. I'm completely shocked to see my verbal score and still unable to recover from the shock. I never expected such a brutal low verbal score.

It's disgusting to look back that I've wasted almost a year for GMAT. That's it guys! This is the end of my journey! I think i will not be taking GMAT anymore.

Thank you guys for your wonderful support!
See there is nothing to give up! just do more micro study , find more small mistakes in sentence correction. These type of blogs and MGMAT has disclosed mostly tricks of GMAT Makers then obivously they are also woking to make more tricky exam because they are also getting salary from GMAC. Verbal is the key for breaking the back o this test. Do verbal, take powerscore tips More you grill your self for this exam better you are ready for MBA life and beyond. You don't wanna see yourself as a manager or CEO who writes emails with Grammar errors or redundancies or parallel construction errors. More GMAT gets trickier more it prepares you as a corporate individual. never give up!! never give up!!

Papadust:
One more thing I learnt after looking at various posts; People who are in thier bachelor, masters program are better prepared for GMAT because of thier continuity of everything. Think about a person who has to read almost everyday a chapter of over 5000 words for degree related semesters.
So people who are somehow away from college for few years including me, should develop an attitude through consistent academic activities. Read newspapers, magazines, write on forums, blogs, read other's opinions I mean do everything which can stimulate the level of college capabilities those have been either blury because of job, responsibilities, age or diminished completely.
So a senior candidate has to revitalize and redevelop himself. Many mid level and senior professionals (especially after 4-5 years of experience, aged around 27-28) have a kind of gap because at workplaces they get different involvement ranging from office politics to retention of job.
Make sure the forums or blogs which you join are not just GMAT oriented. Forums and blogs develop writing and reading both skills.
MAKE SURE YOU NOW COMPLETELY FOCUS ON VERBAL
MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR TARGET OF VERBAL ACCURACY OF 40

Also, our common usage of english in regular life sometimes put a very general meaning of a word in our mind but GMAT consider those words as per thier legal or dictionary meaning. For example:

Explain
Describe
Contrast
Compare
refer
infer
imply
argue

Now untill we put some extra stress to distinguish these two words "explain" and "describe" these words are pretty close to each other. BUT in GMAT this closeness of meaning which is fixed in our mind, proves to be wrong. So try to change default settings of mind regarding meaning and english usage and customize as per GMAT.

Hey Pradeep,
Sad to hear your story....

1) I would advise you to first hit 700+ on GMATPrep tests before going for real one, it seriously boosts your confidence and yes practise with AWA.

2) do consider verbal or both prep classes, I'm considering it too but right now I'm in different phase of life where GMAT is not important. I don't have 1% doubt on your quant ability from your replies till now.

All the best for your next attempt.

Cheers,
Satish

Whatabout taking a prep class such as Veristas or Kaplan? They are pricey, but they have teachers who can work with you in specific areas to determine what you are doing wrong. There are also programs that last for only a weekend so it would not be a great deal of time. I think this would greatly benefit you. I think this site even offers a discount for them!

Good luck!

but i have learnt one thing from all my failure that....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF U GIVE UP AT THIS STAGE, THEN AM DAMN SURE THAT AFTER SUM TIME U WILL FEEL THAT YOU WAS PRETTY CLOSE. N U WILL REGRET THAT Y U QUIT. IT REALLY TAKES A LONG TIME TO HOT THE HAMMER. IT IS NOW ALREADY HOT. DONT LET IT COOL DOWN.

i faced 100 failure in life. today i do not regret those failure BUT

i regret that WHY EACH TIME I QUITTED......

Hello Papgust,

DO NOT let this monster defeat you. I will be taking this thing again for the third time. After a MGMAT class, tutor assistance, and a wonderful math tutor I will take it again.

My philosophy is this: NEVER let this thing beat you. Just imagine all of the wonderful things you can contribute to the MBA class. Your knowledge, expertise, and wit will be greatly missed. Don't let some standardized test get you down.

Never!

Good luck on your retake. I say "good luck" because I know you will do it. Move forward.
