If this is true, then you have to be especially worried about geting consecutive questions wrong when you are on the steep part of the curve coz two errors back to back will significantly shift your percentile downwards --> score.

It's true and that's a key point. The worst thing that can happen is multiple wrong in a row, and the higher you're scoring, the worse it is for your score to get multiple wrong in a row - because the higher you're scoring, the more the algorithm "expects" you not to get many wrong, and not to get multiple wrong in a row.
