Is w an integer?

1. 3w is an odd number.
2. 2w is an even number.

Answer is C

1. not sufficient since w can be an integer or can be a fraction like 1/3
2. not sufficient since w can be an integer or can be a fraction like 1/2

1 and 2 together,
w can be 1 , 3 i.e. an integer. if w is a fraction then no value of w can satisfy both 1 and 2.
so, w has to be an integer.

even / 2 must be an integer.

IMO B

3w = odd number
if w = 1/3, 3w = 1 odd number .
Not suff.

2W = even number
only fraction to give an interger answer is 1/2 , 2w = 1 an odd number.
cos the answer has to be an even no. which is after all in integer
W has to be an integer.

this is the sort of problem on which MAKING LISTS is the easiest way to proceed.

statement (1)
3w is 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, ...
so
w is 1/3, 1, 5/3, 7/3, 3, 11/3, ...
insufficient

statement (2)
2w is 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ...
so
w is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...
sufficient
