Did the population of Country S increase by less than 20 percent from 1965 to 1975?

(1) The population of Country S in 1965 was 180 million.
(2) The population of Country S in 1975 was 1.17 times what it was in 1965.

IMO B

Statement 1 gives population in year 1965 but we do not know the population in 1975 so cannot answer the question.

Statement 2 says that population in 1975 was 1.17 times that in 1965.
So, if population in 1965 = a
population in 1975 = 1.17a
Increase in population = 0.17a
% increase in population = 0.17a x 100 / a = 17%

So, this answers the question that it is less than 20%.

Hence 2 alone is sufficient but 1 alone is not sufficient.
