in this question, there was no implication that the numbers in set is consequent. that's why how 1) could be sufficient?

can someone please explain? may be i miss something

range is difference between max and min number
Now 2 possibilities are their w and z may not be max and min..in that case max>w>z...since w-z>2..max-z has to be >2

if z is not the min then z>min...so max-min>2..range is greater than 2.
