Fruit bowl

A bowl of fruit contains only apples, organces and pears. If a piece of fruit is randomly selected from the bowl, what is the probability that the piece of fruit is an apple?

1) Half of the fruit in the bowl is oranges
2) The probability of selecting a pear is 30%.

IMO C

1) Half of the fruit in the bowl is oranges .
We cannot say anything about Picking an apple except for it is less than 1/2.


2) The probability of selecting a pear is 30%.
Not Sufficient

P(apple)= 100- P(Oranges)- P( Peaches)
= 100 - 50-30
=20

P(apple) = ??

Statement 1 P(orange) = 1/2, thus P(not orange)= 1/2 - not sufficient
Statement 2 P(Pear) = 3/10, thus P(not pear) = 7/10 not sufficient

Simple subtraction to get P(apple) = P(orange) 5/10-P(pear) 3/10 = 2/10, or 20%.

Choose C.
