Equations

Is x=y?

1) (x-y)= (x^2-y^2)

2) X and Y are each greater than 1.

Anyone has a kind of approach to this problems? Tks. in advance.

Is x=y?

1) (x-y)= (x^2-y^2)

(x-y) = (x-y)(x+y)

(x-y) - (x-y)(x+y) = 0

(x-y) [ 1 - (x+y) ] =0

x=y OR x+y = 1

2) X and Y are each greater than 1.

X>1
y>1

x+y> 2

INSUF

1 + 2 )

Since x+y can not be 1

It is X=Y
