If you can express the denominator in the form of 2^x or 5^y or both. The decimal terminates.

1/12 ==> 1/(2^2 * 3) non terminating

1/10^2 ==> 1/(2^2 * 5^2) terminating

1/2^10 ==> terminating

:D now use ur calculator to find out this

i guess if the denominator's factors consist of 2,3 and 7 only are non-terminating.

please cofirm.not very sure.

Only if your denominator is in the form of 2^n, 5^n or 2^n*5^n then only will the number be a terminating decimal.

because 6/3 = 2 terminating
5/3 = 1.66 not terminating

I believe Numerator can be any number.
Numerator and denominator should be in such a way the result is a decimal not a integer ( 6/3 = 2 is an integer)

it holds true 'only' when the fraction has been simplified

example 49/280 is terminating since it can be simplified to 7/40 ( 40 = 2^3 * 5)
