Given that x and y are real numbers, what is the value of x + y ?

1. (x² - y²) / (x-y) = 7
2. (x + y)² = 49
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

s1) (x-y)(x+y)/(x-y)=x=y=7
suff

s2)taking sq root bth side
+/-(x+y)=7---->(x+y)=+/-7
not suff
hence A

St.1 ) (x² - y²) / (x-y) = 7 --> (x+y)(x-y)/(x-y) = 7 --> x+y =7 suff.
St.2 ) (x + y)² = 49 --> x+y =+/- 7 insuff.
Ans A
