A regular working day is 9 hours and a regular week is 5 days. Tom is paid $3 per regular working hour and $3.50 per hour overtime. If he earns $680 in 4 weeks, what is the number of hours he works in 4 weeks?
(A) 180
(B) 220
(C) 240
(D) 280
(E) 320

number of regular hrs. worked = 4 weeks*5days per week*9hrs per day = 180hrs.
This 180 hrs. account for 180*3 = 540$.
so he earned 680-540 =140$ through overtime.
Number of overtime hrs = 140/3.5 = 40 hrs.

so total = 180+40 = 220

45 hours per week earns him 135 dollars a week...
180hrs in 4 weeks regular earns him 540 dollars.
680 - 540, 140 dollars he earned as overtime,

140/3.5 will give the overtime hours...

$10 *2 * 7 /3.5

thus 40 hours overtime..

thus 180+40 = 220 net working hours
