Is retaking MGMAT CATs ok?

by maus » Sun Apr 24, 2011 9:08 pm
Hi Guys,

So, I have a question about retaking MGMAT CATS...I have been studying for GMAT since Jan of this year and was lucky enough to take about 3 MGMAT cats. I recently bought the full set ( 7 CATS + question banks) because I really liked the analysis tools.

I just took the first MGMAT cat and saw some repeat questions that I had previously seen from the 3 MGMAT cats that I had taken before.

MGMAT 1 - 580
MGMAT 2 - 490
MGMAT 3- 500
MGMAT 1 (Re-Take) - 610

I scored a 610 on the most recent CAT, and I'm wondering how indicative the score is of my progress, especially since I recognized (but didn't remember the actual answer) to some of the problems. Hoepfully it means that I've improved *somewhat* instead of getting lucky... It was pretty challenging even though I had previously seen some of the problems, but I have no idea what that means.

If you're wondering about the MGMAT 2 and 3 scores (490 and 500), I did horribly on pacing and had to guess on 6-10 (maybe even more :( ) problems. I finished the most recent one (MGMAT 1 - 610) on time.

I still have a couple more tests to take, but I don't want to be prematurely happy (or too negative) about the 610 on the most recent CAT.

What do you guys think? Thank you all! ;)

I would strongly recommend not letting any test score get you carried away.
Just take the tests, analyze your performance. What you went wrong in, what new concepts you can learn etc. Apart from that, do not make the test scores make or break. You are creating unnecessary pressure for yourself.

If you really wanna see how well you are doing, I recommend subtracting 40-50 points from your each score to get an indication. I say this because during the real test, you know it is a real test and exam pressure will kick in.

(I dipped from 740 in GMAT prep to 700 on the real test)
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Thanks Vineeshp!

I guess I am just wondering if even though i might see some problems that i recognize, should i still take the rest of my MGMAT cats and can i "rely" on them as a decent indicator of progress (with a grain of salt, of course)?

Ill continue to analyze, but with only one trackable gmat cat (i dont have the scores/breakdowns from the other four tests i took)i guess there isn't much analyzing i could really do...
