If 70 children go to the cinema for the afternoon and 40 watch Cinderella and 50 watch The Little Mermaid, how many watch both Cinderella and The Little Mermaid?
Hey,
I find it helpful to think about it using Venn Diagrams. So you the number going to Cinderella only + The Little Mermaid only + Both = 70 (1).
Let the number of kids going to both be x, then
Cinderella only = 40-x
Little Mermaid only = 50-x
Sub the above back into eqn (1) --> (40-x) + (50-x) + x = 70
Solve for x --> x=20.
Therefore, 20 see both movies.
