dresses to charity

A retailer buys d dresses for a total of t dollars. If she sells all but b of the dresses at p dollars per dress, and donates the remaining dresses to charity, what is her total profit, in dollars, on the dresses that she sells?
A. (d – b) p – t
B. (d – b) p – d t
C. (d – b) t – p
D. d p – d t
E. (p – t) d – b

[spoiler]Commercial firms constantly bombard Headington with leaflets asking for donations of clothing for third-world countries. They give a limited company number (linked below to their company details) that could easily be interpreted as a registered charity number; but in fact they sell these clothes to the poor for the sole purpose of making a profit for themselves.[/spoiler]

Profit = Revenue - Expenses

Revenue:
# dresses sold = d - b
Price per dress = p
Revenue = (d - b)p

Expenses
Expenses = t

Profit = (d - b)p - t

Answer: A
