Dear Jon,

I am an Indian IT guy with 6 years of experience.

The following are a few highlights of my profile

1. CFA Level 2 candidate
2. Technical blogger on Oracle products since 2011. Have close to 70000 hits on my blog
3. I have written 3 technical whitepapers in my company
4. I am the author of a book on Oracle technology published by a UK publication company.
5. I am a Sun certified java programmer
6. I am an Oracle certified associate
7. I am a BTech in Electrical and Electronics

I plan to gun for the top 10 B-school in US or the top 5 of Europe. Kindly let me know the kind of score I should get to have a realistic chance of getting any of them

Regards,
Vishal

Hey Vishal,
Well, I'd love to help out but I need more info from you first: Have a TOEFL score? What was your UG school? Your GPA? What extras do you have? Volunteer work? Leadership? What were your main achievements?

Applying as an Indian IT Male dude is very hard, even with an 800 GMAT, so I am looking for extra stuff too!!!

Yeah, I understand :-), but I have to make things work. Let me be honest here. My academics is the only thing I have. My book, my blog, CFA level 1 and my work exp.

My UG school was Birla Institute of Technology. It is one of the top 10 schools for engg in India but I dont think it is known internationally. My percentile in UG was 71.9

I do not have any volunteer work or anything that proves my leadership. No TOFEL and no extra work

I am just one of those who is good at studying.

My GMAT is scheduled in a week's time and I wanted to understand the kind of score that will keep me in the race for the best b-schools in the world

Regards,
Vishal

Well, top 10 are likely gonna be stretches for you then... But let's not worry about that just yet. First take your GMAT come back here with your score, and then from there it's always easier to figure things out.
