Please evaluate my profile

Hello,

Hope everyone is doing fine.

Need some help here.

I took the GMAT last week and scored 610 (V-70 percentile, Q-63 percentile).

I am considering applying to universities which rank in the top 25 for fall 2009. I am looking for some sort of financial aid also.

I understand that the GMAT score is not the only parameter on which an admit is granted but I believe it is an important one. So should I retake GMAT or does my work experience act as a compensating factor? What is the general trend with respect to the combination of GMAT scores and work-ex? My work experience is as below:

I have been working for more than 2.5 years in IT and telecommunications.
Atleast 1.5 years of it has been international experience and will continue that way as I travel to clients across the globe. I expect good professional recommendations.
My acads can be considered to be at an average level.

With this profile, can I expect to get an admit from any of the top 25 universities?
If not then which colleges or rather level of colleges should I apply to?

Appreciate your help.

Cheers

Dear cyborg,

With average grades and a 610 GMAT, you will find gaining admission to a top 25 to be quite difficult as you are below the averages for these programs on the academic measures. Additionally, top 25 schools do not generally give large scholarship awards to even the most stellar applicants. So if scholarship funds are important to you, then I would suggest looking at schools outside the top 25 and retaking your GMAT. To be competitive for scholarship funds, you need to present an above average application with compelling reasons for a school to give you an award.

While you do have good work experience, IT is quite common in the MBA applicant pool and thus it will not be enough to balance below average academic measures. Your global experiences will help to distinguish you if you leverage them properly.

Best of luck,
Lisa
