Differentiating Factors

Strength of your profile can be very well measured when we compare you to your applicant pool. For example if I compare you with another entrepreneur, what do you think are the 3 differentiating factors? Is it that you are working with a more risky and fast growing e-commerce business or it lays outside work in your stints with Asian community? Start thinking on these lines.

Leadership

You have enough examples to talk about from your entrepreneurial venture and community work.

Goal Clarity

Doesn't matter if your experience is small biz experience. In a world where 1000s of applicants are applying to B-schools every year, an applicant's goal clarity is of paramount importance. What are your long term goals and in line with these what are your post-MBA short term goals?

Have you given a sincere thought to these questions? If not you should because they would be a part of your MBA essays/interviews for sure.

GMAT

700 is a good score, so you can be assured on that front. There is no GMAT cut-off as such put by B-schools. Higher the better is the general thumb rule. Asian applicants esp Indians tend to have high GMAT scores. You can get an idea about B-school's GMAT expectations by looking at class profile of last year's admits, where in they give Average GMAT score for last year's intakes.

LORs

Well if they are already work-in-progress, the best bet for you would be to now write some brilliant essays that leave no scope for doubt that you are an exceptional candidate with stellar achievements. Essays will always have a very good weight-age.

Hi gatortomba,

You have an interesting profile. Good thing is that you have maintained a direction in your profession in terms of industry and have a convincing career goal. Your GMAT score will certainly not be a constraint. You have bunch of things in your background which can appeal to the adcom but it is important that you bring them out in your essays in a convincing manner. Your biggest strength is your entrepreneurial experience and a successful exit. Do you have any clients who can write an LOR for you?

Hi!

Unfortunately, we were in the Consumer Products space, so it didn't make sense (at least to me) to identify one individual customer to provide an LOR.

You are right.

You may think of other partners such as your suppliers etc. provided they know you well.
