by colossal » Wed Dec 12, 2012 6:28 am
My profile summary is as below
GMAT 600 q44v28
GPA 58% Mechanical Engineer (Mumbai University, India)
Work Experience: 3.3 years in sales, marketing and purchasing (global sourcing) of steel. Some of the customers I handle are fortune 500. Remaining are major companies based in India.

Extra Curricular: I have had multiple leadership roles during my undergraduate studies in my department and at college level. I have also done an International level internship. I have also worked through my my undergraduate studies and funded most of my education.

Please suggest if I can try Fuqua/UNC/Rotman/Schullich/gatech/tippie.

I want to get into product management post mba.

Unless you are wanting to apply r2 this year, i would recommend retaking the test and aiming for a higher score ( around 697 for DUKE for example) ..The average GMAT score for each program you are interested in is what you should be aiming for (as a minimum). Sometimes reading into the RANGE can be misleading as a lot of the people who get in to big schools with below average scores (for that institution) have a stellar background (UG, Leadership, Essay, story , Recomendations etc etc)..So aim for the average in order to be competitive..

Here is a list of Average scores for some of the top programs :

Hi colossal,

As vomhorizon pointed out, your GMAT is below par and a better score can make you more competitive. You can apply to the schools mentioned by you but Duke may be tough unless you have great career progression.

The strong areas in your profile are good and diverse work experience with decent extra curricular; try to make it stronger by adding minimum 650+ GMAT score, as most of your target b-school's average GMAT score is 650-720.

I would also suggest you to prepare for GMAT parallel with your applications, as you still have fair chances in applying for top b-schools.Visit https://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool to gauge your chances.

Hence it would be highly advisable to seek assistance from professional consultants for guidance on preparing for GMAT preparation & stellar application, get your essays/scholarship essays evaluated before sending it out along with your application.
