[9]=9*3=27
[6]=6/2=3

So [9]*[6]=81. Please note that our answer is 81 WITHOUT a box whereas in the question you have all the answer choices WITH the box.

Now, [81]=81*3=243 not the right one whereas
[27]=27*3=81

Hence 81 without a box corresponds to [27] With a box and hence D.)
