My test Feb 10 is approaching

by isisalaska » Thu Jan 25, 2007 7:33 am
Hi
As I approach to the D-Day I start feeling very tired and almost to the point I am “sick of this” :x , yet a little voice inside my head keeps telling me “are you sure you don’t need an extra week?”
:? I have re-schedule my test once already…I read somebody did the same and this is the wrong strategy. I just wanted to share my feeling towards the end of this crazy marathon
I have done so many books and I wonder if is there is a point where you reach a plateau and you cannot improve more, I am still not getting very high scores though, is just I don’t have the capacity to learn more? Am I loosing this battle?

my test date is Feb 5th-
I wish I had taken this exam seriously- I havent really studied hard till this last week.

I have only read thru the princeton review book, done a bunch of practice questions and 2 full tests. My score is 610.

The next however many days I am buckling down to boost my score to mid 600's(upper if possible)

Not the best scores in the world, but I am realistic and just trying to make the absolute best with the time I have left.

I am going to get the Kaplan800 book tomorrow and start working thru that unless I hear better advice.

Let me know if you have found any good advice! God knows I need some!

You should get the test over with--that little voice of doubt happens to most people as they near test time (I certainly heard it).

You just have to trust your studies and go for it!

My recommendation is to take a lot of practice tests. It will serve you most with your limited time to get a feel for the testing environment and timing. If you haven't all ready, be sure to download the GMATPrep software, which is available for free from MBA.com.

Best of luck!

Make sure you're actually studying from those tests, though - if you just keep taking tests but not improving in between, then you'll just keep making the same mistakes. You have to analyze every question afterwards and figure out what you can learn from it.

There is obviously a plateau at some point for everyone (except the amazing few who score an 800 :)). Generally speaking, there are two plateaus, actually: the one you hit when studying on your own and the (usually higher) one you hit when studying with an expert. I'm not saying everyone needs to take a class or study with a tutor - but if you want to score significantly higher than your "study on my own" level, it's likely that you will need outside help. (But if you can get to where you need to be on your own, then don't bother!)

Please be aware that it is illegal to reproduce questions from the test - you can talk about types (e.g., I saw two probability questions), but please do not try to remember and retype any questions on the boards. We don't want to get in trouble!

well, I though it was "ok" to talk about what kind of questions were in the exam in "general terms". For instance, more DS than PS questions, or more scientific RC than social science. That was exactly my intention, I was never planning to disclosure the questions since firstable I will not be able to remember ;)

Yes - it's definitely okay to talk in general terms. I just wanted to remind everyone not to try to reproduce questions. :)

Please don't post live questions

by beatthegmat » Tue Feb 13, 2007 5:43 pm
Just wanted to reiterate what Stacey has already said: please do not discuss any live GMAT questions on this forum. It's against our policy: https://www.beatthegmat.com/viewtopic.php?t=176

As a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to not discuss live (i.e., currently being tested) questions on any public forum on the Internet. GMAC is actively monitoring many sites, and they will come down on you hard if they catch you revealing live test questions to others. The usual punishment seems to be: (1) disqualifying your GMAT scores; (2) banning you from ever taking the GMAT; (3) and because of (2), preventing you from ever applying to business school.

Yikes!
