how did you get 2^9?

I thought 2^3^2 = 2^6

Do you get 9 with the brackets around the 3?

You have to pay attention to order of operations.

2^3^2 is the same as 2^(3^2).
You multiplied 3*2 instead of 3 squared which is 9.

Takeaways:

1) a^b^c with no parentheses do b^c first and then raise a to that

2) (a^b)^c = a^ (b*c)


Hope this helps in addition to everyhting said above by cyclonus.
