my pick is ^d^.A B and E are out for the lack of paralellism. idiom is both x and y - x and y should be parallel. like the younger and the older people or younger and older people. among C and D , c is out cuz the is a definite article and
is used to refer to a specific or particular member of a group. but here we are talking about the general group of younger and older peopl e not a specific one. hence D
