Is the number of seconds required to travel d1 meters at r1 meters per second greater than the number of seconds required to travel d2 meters at r2 meters per second?

(1) d1 is 40 greater than d2.

(2) r1 is 40 greater than r2.

IMO E

rate * time = Distance

Is d1/r1 > d2/r2???

1) d1 is 40 greater than d2.
(d2+40)/r1 > d2/r2

Insufficient as we dont know anything about r1 and r2


(2) r1 is 40 greater than r2.

(d1)/(r2 + 40 ) > d2/r2

Insufficient as we dont know anything about d1 and d2

Combining both ,

(d2+40)/(r2 + 40 ) > d2/r2

This can differ based upon different values of d2 and r2
say d2= r2 = 100 then LHS = RHS
when d2= 100 r2 = 10 LHS< RHS
so E
