Hi

I gave my GMAT and ended up with an appalling 650(Q49, V28), AWA 4.5 because I did not finish the verbal section. The score is very poor considering that my practice test scores were over 700. However I still to wish to see where I stand with my current score & experience.

School Lower 86%

GMAT: 650(Q49, V28), AWA 4.5, First Attempt

Career: (IT)

Have 7 years of experience in Enterprise Software (SAP), 3 years of which was in Western Europe(Germany, Swiss, France) & UK. I have worked as IT Strategist/Architect and also in presales (RFPs & Bidding). Currently I play an advisory role with my customers.

Non Career:

- Involved in teaching students preparing for GRE with a private firm.
- Involved in philosophy, yoga & digitisation of ancient texts.
- was involved in forming a cricket club in western Europe.

Lived in:

India, Germany, UK, Switzerland.

Wish to apply for Executive MBA programme:

I wish to apply for schools offering Executive MBA programmes in India such as IIMA, IIMB, ISB. Outside India I wish to apply to NUS (Singapore) and the ones in western europe. Please also let me know if an improved GMAT score will help my cause.

Thanks.

Dear gmatInv,

First, your GMAT score is not "appalling." While I understand your expectations were higher and it might not reflect your abilities, it is still a solid score, particularly the quant score. While I think your current score will not result in an automatic rejection at your target EMBA programs, I agree that a retake might be helpful to increase your verbal score as it is on the low end. For EMBA programs, your professional experience and reasons for wanting an MBA are scrutinized in the admissions process. Be sure to use your global experience, management of others, and advisory role to clients to your advantage in your applications. Likewise, you want to distinguish your application from other Indian IT professionals, so pick examples that you feel are unique for your essays and interviews.

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi Lisa

Thanks very much. I took heart from your post. I have decided to give the GMAT a second shot to get over 700. This time I will give myself ample time for preparation. Thanks once again.
