Didn't Beat the Gmat - 630.

by toudavis » Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:19 am
I took the Kaplan class and got very little out of it in terms of preparedness. My verbal was in the 80th percentil, but my math score was weak. Any suggestions on how to improve upon that? I'm bummed and I want to take it again relatively soon. I just want to know if there are any suggestions for improving a math score in approx 2 months when I would like to take it again. People on this forum have advocated Manhattan GMAT materials, is that the only avenue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,
Yes its hurting after putting in so much effort. Just a quick question, how was the Quantative(were the problems similar to the OG11- last few questions) or were they much harder in comparison.
If you had gone through the KAPLAN 800 can you compare them.

much harder, but a variation of og10. If you can just look at a question in og and know how to solve it, without a loss of a sec, you are good to go.

That my plan or one my plans, just found a tutor to help me attach problems, do og again and be at the point to do any problem there, for ds what is missing, and what needs to be suff.

Based on what I have read on this and other forums, the OG is actually a pretty fair representation of the material (quant and verbal) that you see on the actual test. However, once you hit questions above 680 level or so, they do get harder than most of the questions you see in the OG, which is why a lot of people turn to Kaplan800 and MGMAT tests.

I have tried 5 MGMAT tests now, and would have to say that I found a number of their problems on the quant to be pretty difficult. The questions did not necessarily test for harder concepts; they just twisted them all together in a way that really required working the problem.

Their verbal, on the other hand, has some questionable CR questions. Some of them involve math, which is not true of the actual test. Also, a number of them are much harder than what you will see on the test because of the sheer number of details you have to keep in mind. HOWEVER, this is still great because you get used to really difficult verbal questions. I have to say that MGMAT tests really improved my ability on the science passage. I used to hit 1 out of 4 questions on these passages. Now, I hit all or 3 out of 4.
