Round vs Rolling

by gmatking » Sun Nov 25, 2007 9:28 pm
Hello,

Why do some schools have multiple deadlines for their applications as do schools that do Round admission?

if you are applying to Rolling admission schools such as Stern or Columbia, to what extent will submitting apps early help a candidate?

Hi gmatking,

I don't have any inside knowledge on the reason for rounds - I would guess that it allows MBA programs to process the thousands of applications they receive more efficiently over several months. Each application is read thoroughly and it's quite labor intensive. If you are a large school like Harvard or Wharton the admissions office could receive almost 10K applications a year.

Applying early in a rolling admissions process ensures your application will be read and processed in that round. I don't think it gives you any huge advantage, but ensures you will not be disadvantaged if the class slots fill up before the end of the round.

Good luck!
