700 (Q48 74th / V38 85th). Retake it?�

Hi all,

I have just taken the GMAT, and was reading through Beat the GMAT to get more comfort around my score. I am aiming only at HBS, Stanford and Wharton and I plan to apply in the first round for next year.

My total score was 700 (Q48 74th / V38 85th). IR score 6.
My GMATPrep mock scores were:
720 (Q49 83th / V40 90th) - 3 weeks ago
730 (Q49 83th / V41 93th) - 2 weeks ago
710 (Q50 90th / V35 74th) - 1 week ago
700 (Q49 83th / V36 79th) - 1 week ago
Avg: 715 (Q49 85th / V38 84th)

My score at Kaplan/VeritasPrep mocks have also ranged from 700-740, with an average of 720 (quant always between 49-50, and Verbal 36-41).

If that helps, I come from Latin America, and attended the top engineering school in my country, graduated among top 5% in my class, awarded scholarship, etc, etc, etc.

Any views if I should retake the GMAT, and try to gain this addition +20/30 points? Important to bear in mind, I am no longer 20yrs old, and my job sucks pretty much 100% of my time.

Hi gmat_700_retake,

You ask an important question, which I'm sure a certain number of Test Takers have to consider....

A 700/Q48 is an outstanding score (it's right around the 90th percentile overall), so there's likely no reason to retest. You're ultimately asking an "Admissions" question, so you should probably talk to an Admissions Expert. There is a Sub-Forum that is full of those experts, so I suggest that you start here.

Top Programs are remarkably competitive (and they normally accept just 10%-15% of appilcants). If you applied and did not get in, then I can tell you that whatever the reason is....it would NOT be because of your GMAT score.

Hi gmat 700 retake,

I'm just curious. Did you end up retaking, or did you decide to hold on to your 700?
