Hey friends and mentors

I am a doctor did my graduation medicine and have 2 years work exp in healthcare delivery mostly at the primary level. if i want an exposure into corporate sector after MBA and then be an entreprenuer in primary healthcare delivery, what makes more sense---- MBA(General Management)/ MBA( Healthcare Management) / MHA ???

Kindly give in your valuable advice with some insight into the dilemma...

thanks in advance

jeevakp103,

I personally would vote for an MBA in healthcare management, because you would get the general management core courses, have some electives for entrepreneurship, and have the healthcare management specialization. Wharton, Kellogg, Duke and Vanderbilt are among leading programs with healthcare MBAs.

Jeevakp,

An MBA will be broader than an MHA while MHA will take you more deeply into the Healthcare sector. if you see yourself more as a businessman in healthcare sector than a healthcare professional ten years down the line, MBA is probably the right choice for you.

Most of the schools offer MBA and have focus in Healthcare industry. Second year is predominantly electives and a student in general MBA can easily pick few electives from Healthcare focus of the MBA coursework. At the end, you get a diploma in MBA, and hence once you are in the business school, YOU will have all the flexibility to choose any direction.
