How come this sentence is correct?

"We work all night, AND we sleep all day."
I'm no expert, just trying to work on my skills. If I've made any mistakes please bear with me.

2 elements separated by COMMA + AND. Shouldn't it be like - X AND Y?

Shouldn't it be like - X AND Y?
two I clauses joined by "and" needs a comma ----> we sleep all day is an I clause
also this sentence wud have been oki even without a comma [/i]

I agree with Neha, it is 2 independent clauses conveying complete ideas, joined by comma FANBOYS - "AND". (Coordinating Conjunction)
