Area of the triangle = (base*height)/2
Now, base = length of AC = difference of x-coordinates of A and C = (4 - (-2)) = 6
And, height = distance of B from AC = difference of y-coordinates of B and A = (b - 1)

So, 6(b - 1)/2 = 24
--> (b - 1) = 2*24/6 = 8
--> b = 8 + 1 = 9

The correct answer is E.
