Cancellation fees
DAYS PRIOR TO DEPARTURE PERCENT OF PACKAGE PRICE
46 OR MORE 10%
45-31 35%
30-16 50%
15-5 65%
4 OR FEWER 100%
The table above shows the cancellation fee schedule that a travel agency uses to determine the fee charged to a tourist who cancels a trip prior to departure. If a tourist canceled a trip with a package price of $1,700 and a departure date of September 4, on day was the trip canceled?
(1) The cancellation fee was $595
(2) If the trip had been canceled one day later, the cancellation fee would have been $225 more.

Answer C

In the explanation for (2), OG never uses the (2) but uses (1) to explain (2) and the answer is C. I thought we should think them separately. Their answer for (2) is as follows:
"This implies that the increase in the cancellation fee for canceling one day later would have been 595/1700=15% of the package price. the 1700 cancellation could thus have occurred either 31 days or 16 days prior to the departure date of september 4 because the cancellation fee would have been increased by that percentage either 30 days before departure or 15 days before departure. however, there is no further information to establish whether the interval before departure was 31 days or 16 days; NOT sufficient"

Can someone explain?

1) NOT SUFFICIENT-could be any days between 31 to 45 days prior to departure
2) Not SUFF- could be 16 or 31 days prior to the departure
combining,
SUFF- it has to be the exactly 31 days prior to the departure
so C
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!
