Malik's recipe for 4 servings of a certain dish requires 3/2 cups of pasta. According to this recipe, what is the number of cups of pasta that Malik will use the next time he prepares this dish.

1) The next time he prepares this dish, Malik will make half as many servings as he did the last time he prepared the dish.

2) Malik used 6 cups of pasta the last time he prepared this dish.

The prompt tells us that 4 servings require 1.5 cups of pasta, so we know how to convert servings to cups and vice-versa. To find out how many cups he will use, we need to know how many servings he will make.

Rephrase: how many servings will he prepare next time?

Statement 1:
Since we don't know how many servings Malik made last time, we cannot determine how many he will make next time. NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2:
This tells us nothing about the cups or servings he will use next time. NOT SUFFICIENT

Together:
He used 6 cups last time; next time he will make half as much food, so he will use 3 cups next time. (1/2 as many servings corresponds to 1/2 as many cups because the two amounts are directly proportional). SUFFICIENT

The answer is C
