Was is correct.

If you said, "I wish I were more mature than I am now." this would be correct.

The difference is the second is in the subjunctive --

From wikipedia:

In grammar, the subjunctive mood is a verb mood typically used in subordinate clauses to express various states of unreality such as wish, emotion, possibility, judgment, opinion, necessity, or action that has not yet occurred.

The first is not in the subjunctive because you are talking about past events.
