If circles x and y have the same area...

If circles x and y have the same area and circle x has a circumference of 16Ï€, half of the radius of circle y is:

A) 16
B) 8
C) 4
D) 2
E) 1

The OA is C.

Can any expert explain this PS question please? I don't have it clear. Thanks.

Hey, so the key thing to notice here is that for x and y to have the same area, they need to be identical circles - in other words, they have the same radius.

So if the circumference of x is 16Ï€, this means that 2Ï€r = 16Ï€, which means that r = 8 for both circles, which means that half of r = 4.

Since the circumference of circle y will also be 16Ï€, its radius is 8, and hence half its radius is 4.

Answer: C
