A)3.5
B)7
C)9.8
D)10.5
E)14

OA: E

Plz help
IMO answer is E)
Approach - The distance from the x -axis to point P...ordinate of P
the distance from the y -axis to point P...abscissa of P
co-ordinates of P are (2a, a)
Equate (2a,a) with ( x , - 7)

we have a function concept applied with a coordinate geometry topic
y=(1/2)*x, the coordinates of P is (x,-7) and according to our function we may have -7=(1/2)*x OR x=-14. Now the question asks "how many units is P from the y-axis" note please the word 'unit' and we are not looking for coordinate which is -14, but looking for 'how many units'. The answer is 14 units, E.
