OA is A

The confusion between the A & C, centers around the conciseness of the sentence and finally A wins for that

Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

i think should be A
discoveries that were made can be simply rewritten as discoveries made.

i think you got confused with idiom discovery that. discovery that is used to explain what that discovery is.
the discovery that sun rises in east is ......

OA is A

Explanation below:

A. Correct answer. The sentence is anchored in the Past by the phrase in 1926. By default, this sentence should remain in the Past tense. This answer choice correctly uses the Past tense following the anchor in 1926 (led). It is also concise.

B. This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The sentence is anchored in the Past by the phrase in 1926. By default, this sentence should remain in the Past tense. The verb are, however, is in the Present. Remember our rule:Once in the Past, always in the Past.

C. Although this answer choice is grammatically correct, stylistically, it is not the most concise of the five answer choices. There's another grammatically correct answer choice that is more concise. look for it!

D. This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The sentence is anchored in the Past by the phrase in 1926. By default, this sentence should remain in the Past tense. The verb leads, however, is in the Present. Remember our rule:Once in the Past, always in the Past. The use of the Present tense is also illogical since the television was created a long time ago.

E. Although this answer choice is grammatically correct, it changes the meaning of the original sentence. The phrase another important discovery implies a singular discovery whereas the original sentence implies multiple discoveries.
