MBA in ASEAN Countries

by hiyapulsar » Sat Mar 05, 2011 8:13 pm
Hi..
I have recently started following this site. Great work. I wanted to know your thoughts about MBA in the ASEAN countries.. Like NUS Singapore, Asian Institute of Management (Philippines), ISB India etc.. Where do these stand in terms of global exposure and benefits of a MBA degree?

Hi hiyapulsar, welcome to BeatTheGMAT. You have posted a very very interesting question!! Congratulations!!

Firstly, India is not a part of ASEAN. India infact is not even a part of ASEAN+3
you perhaps might be referring to the proposed ASEAN + 6 FTA.
So ISB won't exactly fit in your description.

Nonetheless, I guess, I understand what you try to point. Especially after the World Economic Forum Meet this year and the G-20 last year, its clear that the world is heading for a "two paced growth". The more mature markets such as US and western Europe growth would be a bit stifled and would continue the remain the same way(however demand would be of highest end products and services which would fetch a premium) whereas the Central Eastern Europe and East and SouthEast Asia shall have unprecedented growth(though to reach these mass markets products and services would not command the highest quality parameters and only would require to fit the pocket of the customer)
A particular research institute in Tokyo has even pointed out to a common Asian Monetary Unit similar to the Euro.

I guess you would like to be part of this growth story, which sees unlimited opportunities.
Indeed it would be a good idea to look East for employment benefits.

I haven't interacted in detail with somebody from AIM and am not aware about the curriculum or the kind of global exposure one shall get(the particular question you ask), But I am sure you are sure to get a good Asian Flavor. However, I know one guy who was at IIM Ahmedabad for 6 months after a student exchange programme from AIM. (IIM-A is ranked globally 11th in FT rankings 2011), ISB ranks 13th and NUS ranks 23rd. So all the three colleges should provide you with excellent education & growth.

I would like to point out that a new ivy league has been formed. It consists of 4 colleges which figure in the FT top 100 B-School rankings.

Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST)
China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), and
Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

These are also B-schools which you could be on the lookout!
