Which Job Should I Choose? (Stanford/Haas)

by lupefm » Sat Mar 05, 2011 7:01 pm
Hi,

I'm in the middle of looking for a job transition after working for 1.5 for a marketing consulting start-up. Within the year I was able to win marketing awards and spoken at multiple conferences and seminars internationally. I am looking to work in the non-profit sector as either a mentor for low-income, first generation college students or work at a non-profit ad agency dedicated to telling the story for humanitarian organizations internationally. I am looking to do this as I would like to eventually work in something like microfinance. Consulting took up too much of my time and I was too exhausted to volunteer as I had in the past.

I graduated in 2009 and am thinking of applying this fall or next fall. I graduated as an Honors student with a 3.37 GPA and 3.78 in major GPA with a double major in Business Administration and Management. I have yet to take the GMAT, but expect a 720 - 740+.

Which job would help make me an interesting candidate for these schools? Any other recommendations? I think the two jobs remain consistent with my personal brand as I have a strong history of civic engagement.

Both Haas and Stanford have a good reputation for Entreprenurship and Innovation, so why not try to work for a startup in the hopes of gathering data which would help you when you go to crank up your own venture? Not only would it be useful, it would communicate to the adcoms that you are serious about doing your own thing and willing to put the time in to learn what you need to learn to be successful on your own.
