Career services in Non-US schools

by nikhilsrl » Thu Mar 24, 2011 12:12 am
How good is the career services in Non-US schools (Europe and Canada)?

I was comparing the career services of the European schools with that of the US schools and found that the US schools are way ahead in that respect.

Booth for example had around 86% of its students securing jobs with the help of its career service. Most of them seem to have more than 60% students who received job offers with help direct from career services.

But in Europe only LBS comes anywhere near this number with the career services in LBS helping around 70% of its students. INSEAD comes next with around 50%. The rest like IE, Queen's (Canada) have only around 33% of students securing jobs through respective career services.

Is this a significant disadvantage for these schools?

Where did you get those figures from? I'd be highly skeptical about the fact that INSEAD couldn't place half of the class on graduation. IE and Queen's are again very good schools and those numbers look dismal for those kind of schools, if at all they're true.

I read the original post as meaning that the post-MBA jobs were not from b-school related sources, not that he was referring to placement of the class upon graduation. Basically, at lower tier schools you've got to rely on your network more than the career office's postings or the alumni connections etc.

Rishi,

Ttronn got it right. Those %ages refer to the folks who got jobs through the school's career services. The data is from the placement reports available at the respective school websites. Ofcourse the overall %age that got jobs is much higher at INSEAD and other European or Canadian schools.

Ttronn,

Are you suggesting that Queen's, IE etc are 2nd tier schools?

Oh, I see. I'm sorry,I didn't seem to have read your post carefully.
Ttronn is correct . Queen's and IE are very good schools but are not considered to be in the top league although their ranks are good. Many people around the world wouldn't have still heard of these schools while in their home countries, these schools may give you good opportunities.
