What Should I do Next? Target Score 650

by scotthoopes » Mon Jul 07, 2014 7:18 pm
I have taken the GMAT officially 3 times:

September 2013- 450

March 2014 - 530 (Quant 35, Verbal 28)

June 2014 - 570 (Quant 28, Verbal 35)

I took my first test in September with only studying a little bit by myself and I wanted to get a baseline for my score. Then in December I took the Kaplan On Demand Course and I took all of the practice test consistently scoring in the 550-600 range. After getting my second score of a 530 I took the Kaplan course again trying to focus on my weakness of verbal (sentence correction and critical reasoning). After taking more practice tests I was consistently getting 600 with my quant score being 42-45 and a verbal score of 30-35 depending on the week.

Now that I have taken the test for the third time I am stumped on what or how to study. I did better on the verbal than I thought I would but a lot worse on my quant which I thought was my strength. I have thought about purchasing the bundle from GMAT (https://www.mba.com/us/store/store-catal ... ction.aspx) is that my best bet? I feel like I am close to getting my target score I just need an extra push.

Any ideas or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Hi scotthoopes,

You've made some nice progress so far. You mentioned taking the Kaplan Course more than once. Did you take the Kaplan CATs again also? When you took those CATs, did you take the ENTIRE CAT every time (including the AWA and IR)?

You are close to your goal, but the answers to the above questions will give me a better sense of what you'll need to work on to hit that goal.

Yes I have taken the CATs over again.(between the two study courses I have put in an estimated 300 hours studying including CAT tests) I took the entire thing every time though I skipped the AWA because the schools I am applying for don't require that portion of the test. As for the IR I haven't put that much time into it because once again the schools I am applying for haven't put an emphasis into those portions of the test.
