Also, what happens if you leave the job off your resume/app? Is there still a way for schools to find out about that job?

When you talk about job termination - do you mean laid off or getting fired? They are two very different terms of getting terminated. Depends on what the situation and the terms of termination. The question can definitely crop up during your school interview. If not, it will definitely come up during your internship interview. Whatever the case may be - you need to make sure you state the facts.

Hi Jossie,

Never falsify or omit relevant resume information. If there is a gap of several months or years, at some point you will be asked to explain. If you change the dates on other jobs to cover the terminated job, you may get caught out when your recommenders mention dates. In either case, being less than honest on your application is asking for trouble. A good admissions consultant can help you position your termination in the best possible light without misrepresenting what happened. Being part of a large layoff these days is not a problem - admissions committees see many outstanding candidates who have been caught up in falling markets. On the other hand, termination for cause will need to be explained carefully.
