Mistakes in Applications

by thisisjan » Tue Feb 20, 2007 3:57 pm
Hi Stacy,

I applied to Columbia, Harvard, and Stanford for Round 2. I noticed after I applied that I made some typos in the application, mostly in the employment and activities sections. For example, I left an "i" out of liaison and used "at" instead of "of" in an essay. How important is it to have a perfect application? Is there anything that I can do at this point? I had a good GMAT score, good recommendation letters, and a good GPA at a reputable college. Do I have a better shot with Round 3 at another school, such as Tuck or Wharton?

Thanks.

Of course it would be better to not have those typos, but I do not think that a few minor typos need to be a deal breaker. I know someone who was admitted to Stanford and wrote "GBS" (like HBS) throughout the entire app instead of "GSB". (NOT one of my clients!!!)

My guess is that it may be more challenging to be admitted R3 this year than have a typo in R2, but it certainly cannot hurt to try.

Dear Stacy

What does it mean -Round 2 or Round3 for admissions?
Is it seasons? Like Round 1 is Septermber admission, round 2 January admission etc?

why is it more difficult to be admitted in 3rd round?

thanks

Most schools offer several deadlines. For each deadline, they make decisions on whoever submitted in that deadline and then start with a whole new group for a new deadline. Many schools have three different deadlines - thus Round 1, 2 and 3. Some schools have more or fewer deadlines. Round 1 deadline differs for each school, but it is usually around October, Round 2 is usually in January, and Round 3 is usually in March. All of this depends on which school you are applying to. By the time you get around to Round 3, it can be extremely difficult. This is because most of the class is full with people who applied in the two earlier deadlines. There is also a full waitlist by this time. Again, this is the general rule, but you would have to look at each school that you are applying to to understand their processes.
