Alternative Transcript: UCLA Extension

Hello!

I'm planning on building an alternative transcript since my GPA is low (major in econ) and my quant GMAT score is also low. I'm currently enrolled in Mathematics for Managers at UCLA Extension for Fall 2013. Can anyone tell me about how rigourous this course is?

Also, can anyone recommend any other courses for me to take? I plan on applying for Fall 2013, so I only have the Fall and Winter quarters to take courses. Given that the I'm scheduled to take the GMAT at 10/5 and classes start 9/26, do you think an additional class for the fall will be too much?

Hey Christina - we actually know of someone who recently finished that UCLA course - we've emailed them to see if they can pop in here and give you some comments.

As to other classes: It depends on how "challenged" your transcript is.

To directly answer your question here: We don't typically see the need for multiple classes to offset the GPA issue. You'll need to weight everything out with the GMAT prep, and of course the essays themselves - writing essays usually takes MUCH longer than people expect.

(While we don't recommend actual classes, it's very possible that others around here can do so.)

Great to see the motivation you're showing, this will go far in how the adcoms interpret your profile! Good luck with all the studying you'll be doing - it'll be great preparation for bschool later on.

Thank you so much for your quick response! I'm currently putting all my efforts into studying (again) for the GMAT- got a 660 last time. Aiming to break 700. Thank you again for the advice. It seems like taking a class or two in quant-intensive courses can only help me. Wish me luck

@chris558 - a 660 is a good score but it certainly makes admissions decisions easier for the adcoms when a candidate comes in at/over 700. The class will not only help you with increased skills and hopefully boost your performance on the test, it will signal to the bschools that you're serious about getting an MBA. It sounds like you're doing all in your power to get there - great job!

@[email protected] - we have not taken any UC Berkeley classes sorry can't help you.

(also just FYI to everyone - it's EssaySnark - we're not quite that bad)
