French student: help on study plan please!

by martinho » Mon Apr 27, 2009 7:03 am
Hi guys,
I'm living in Paris and has to take the Gmat in a month, on May 28th.
After reading most of the main informations on this website, I kind of copied and developped a study plan.
I would like, if possible, advises on it please.

NB: I'm not looking for a high score, 500 would be fine.

I'm working on the Gmat 6 days per week, full time.

For verbal I've decided to make 40 questions per day using the score grid for feedback.
I'm also using flashcards to learn the rules and strategies.

Concerning maths, apparently, it seems more efficient to break it down into subjects in order to aim at strengths and weaknesses.
I'm adding the lessons and rules as well.

I decided to take 2 tests per week in order to train my body to have endurance and also be able to keep my concentration.

Apparently, it's quite useful to do 10 questions from the previous subject to stay fit isn't it?

Please do not hesitate to critic my plan given that I'm not quite sure it's a good way to practice.

Thanks again for sharing all this great tips and materials, I wish I had discovered it earlier!!

The books I own are:
OG 11th
Kaplan course book
barrons
princeton review

For the tests, I planned to start with PR, Manhattan and finally GmatPrep.

Regards,
Martin

I'm not sure of the quality of the bottom 2 so you might want to do the first 2books. ANd do them Well!!

Dont study for more than 3-5hrs a day. You will be exhausted. Combined with a 4hr test on the weekend and you'll burn out pretty fast.

Some people like doing different sections such as PS/CR or SC/DS to keep the mind fresh while others prefer PS/DS because they are in the flow. Figure out what works best for you.

The MGMAT has a break-up of Qs topic-wise. Suggest you follow the same.

Get a little activity in place. SUmmer's here so morning/evening walks/run/jog will help physical fitness and get you out of teh house a bit.

Dont forget to occassionally take a little time out and go hang out with some friends

All the Best :)

thanks for the answer.
I can feel it's quite tiring but this is my dead-line and I have to get a 500 at least.
Working on it brings me confidence.
Would you tell me where you've found that break-up from mgmat please?
I went on the site but didn't really find something accurate with your recommendation
I'm starting to swim tomorrow morning, you're right, fresh air brings stamina.

thanks again for your help.
Martin.

PS:what about 2 tests a week?

I'm not sure, i think it was the SCG that had listed questions from the OG at the end of each topic.

2 tests a week could be tiring especially if you are only aiming for a 500. I dont know how you did on a practice test so cant really say.

Importantly, spend time with each test figuring out why you got Qs wrong. Apply your error-tracker to the tests as well and then work with it.

is that the link you're talking about?
https://www.manhattangmat.com/strategy-s ... t-prep.cfm
I took a test and got a miserable 340...

don't worry, i'm using the question grid to focus on my mistakes.
Given that my goal isn't very high, i wondered if there's a "standard" plan to reach my goal.
Cheers
M.

The Standard Plan is

Practice ALL Qs from 0G-__
Keep an error-tracker
Practice the GMATPrep and PowerPrep till you can sleepwalk your way through the exam

Everything else is upto you :)

p.s. no, i think it was in the book that i used. i could be wrong though.

I'm actualy working on PS.
My hit rate is at 60%.
Is there anything special I can do to trigger a higher hit rate?
Still working on the basics though...

I don't experience a feel(like CR ) that makes me think I'm getting better!
