This SC is based on 2 common GMAT grammar rules:
1) Pronouns - You'll notice that the answers discuss either "Holstein COWS" or "the Holstein COW", so we have plural vs. singular. The pronoun "THEM" appears in the non-underlined portion of the prompt, so the correct answer must use the word COWS. Eliminate B and D.
2) Parallelism - The prompt lists 3 things a farmer must do to get a future result from his/her cows. Each of the 3 items must be presented in parallel "format." The phrase "to keep them cool...." provides the format that the other 2 things must follow. Eliminate A and C.
