A. three times as much as 1985

B. three times as many as 1985

C. triple what it was in 1985

D. triple the population in 1985

E. a population triple that of 1985's

Please explain the wrong answers.

IMO C

Parallelism between "in 1995" and "in 1985". Discard A B and E.

Between C and D in D "the population" is ambiguous as it can refer to total population not prison population.

I feel "It" is ambiguous in C.

I will go with D.
