Pronoun - OG explains

by allfta » Thu Jul 11, 2013 2:27 am
Both comes from OG explanation. But I can't understand when the pronoun is allowed.

An executive who is heavily committed to a course of action is likely to miss or misinterpret signs of incipient trouble when they do appear, especially if it has worked well in the past (x)
OG : unclear because many nouns intervene btw referent and "it"

Marconi conceived of the radio as a tool for private conversation that could substitute for the telephone; instead, it has become precisely the opposite, a tool ~ (0)
OG : "it" clearly refers to " the radio"

I agree that this is a bit confusing. The real reason is that the verb structure in the second answer communicates that the subject of the first portion of the sentence is being considered in the second. Really, I tend to use other answer choices to dictate whether or not you can eliminate something based on pronoun use. So really, this conversation is only helpful in the context of other questions.
