Dear Harjeesingh,

Thanks for your post! You have an interesting profile - please see my thoughts below:

1) Your ugrad marks are decent. While they may not compare as favorably to someone from Oxford or Cambridge with a 1:1, they certainly keep you in the running. The fact that you studied engineering places you into an 'oversubscribed' portion of the applicant pool. In addition, if you are Indian (which I am assuming from your comments about "going back to India"), you fall into a doubly over-subscribed group in the applicant pool (Indian with an engineering degree).

2) Your GMAT of 700 is below average for HBS and Stanford and right around the average at LBS. In addition, you should keep in mind that the average GMAT for an Indian engineer who gets into these programs is typically much higher. Have you taken the test more than once? If not, I would strongly consider a retake, with the aim of securing something in the 720+ range.

3) Your work experience is a key asset. While you've got a lot to cover in a short period (3 years, 3 employment experiences to describe), I like the direction you've headed in of late and the public/private nature of your recent work should help you stand out from other Indian engineers in the pool. I presume you will be able to get strong recommendations?

4) Your summer coursework for the mgmt certificate at Stanford is a nice touch. It shows that you are serious about your interest in management, have gained US-classroom experience, etc. Perhaps it has even allowed you to make some meaningful contacts at the school?

5) Your goals aren't terribly fleshed out here. What will your startup do? How will it evolve? Is it the same startup you mentioned in your current career path (it wasn't clear that you had started it from those comments).

6) You've made no mention of XCs, but I presume you know that these are very important for the schools on your list.

7) Your list of target schools is somewhat narrow in focus - and the schools are each very different from one another. How did you arrive at this grouping of programs. Is this solely based on rankings and your desire to perhaps be in the UK again if you can't get into HBS or Stanford?

Feel free to send us your resume ([email protected]) if you'd like to explore the answers to these questions and talk about your background with one of our counselors.

Best of luck,

Graham

Hey Harjeet,

Just a side question for you. You mention, "2. Moved back to India to work with a non-profit organization on enhancing the availability of micro-finance credit to SMEs for 1 year."

Could you please let me know which organization that was with?

Much appreciated!
