Admissions Advice - Please Evaluate

Hello

I graduated from the University of South Florida nearly 2 years ago with a degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science. I've been working for the state as an Investigator for child abuse. Let's just say, it is not for me. I've been contemplating a career change for the entire year that I've been employed there. I would like to get an MBA and concentrate in finance and/or energy. I am scheduled to take my GMAT on October 24th. My problem is my GPA. I did horribly during my undergrad and ended up with a 2.67 gpa. The two classes that started it all were my Business Calculus class and my Statistics class that I took freshman year. Took them during the same semester where my grandmother passed away and I ended up flying out the country. Got an F in Business Calc and a D in Statistics. I would love to be able to say that this was the only reason for my gpa being so low. I'd also love to be able to say that my grades got better from there. But that is far from the truth. For the rest of the semesters I did just....OK. A few A's here and there, but mostly B and C. Taking the GPA for my last 60hrs wont make a difference.
I know that I will not be able to get into the TOP MBA program, however, I will still like to get into a great school. I believe that the MBA Program that you choose is very important as it can determine your career opportunities, especially for me who don't have any experience in the business industry.

Could anyone provide me with any advice as to what to do to maximize my chances of getting admitted? Also, some school suggestions. I am open to different schools in the states of Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, California, Arizona, and Louisiana. If you have any suggestions of schools that are outside this area, I am opened to hearing about them as well.
