Having a manufacturing background puts you in a smaller "pool" of applicants than does having a technical background. Schools want a diversity of experiences and skills. Having a less common skill will be beneficial. That does not mean you don't have to have the rest of your application in line. You will still need solid metrics, sparkling essays and great recommendations. Be sure your essays clearly convey your responsibilities and learning from your manufacturing experience.

You can search for MBA programs with concentrations in manufacturing. Schools with strong undergraduate engineering programs such as Carnegie Mellon would be good bets. Check out the rankings for production/operations programs. University of Michigan at Flint has a manufacturing concentration. Schools near communities (such as Detroit) that are driven by manufacturing companies are more likely to foocus on manufacturing courses than are those schools in largely financial centers (such as New York).

There are many resources in the web to guide you in your search.

Good luck,
