Hey there guys.

After reading a lot in the forums, I didn't find any plans to help people who would like to start studying way before taking the test.

I can only take the test 1.5 year from now (the school accepts GMAT scores from the previous 3 years), but I'd like to start the prep right now

Would it help if I studied for 10 hours/week for the first 6 - 12 months and after that change the plans?

I'm a bit confused ;D

Thanks

It's great that you are getting started early, but be careful that you don't get burned out by spending that much time studying without taking the official test.

Should I study less in the first 12 months then?

And if yes, how?

Studying less than an hour straight would be kinda difficult, I guess

I didn't mean that you should study less than an hour straight. Rather, it is typically advised that once you start hitting your target score on practice tests, then you should register for the official test. You want to take the exam when your confidence and momentum are at their peak.

If you really want to start studying now but know that you definitely cannot take the test for over a year and a half, then go ahead, but just don't let the GMAT dominate your life (that comes later).

How many hours you spend studying per week will likely depend on your work schedule and other activities.

It might be a good idea to get a feel for just how much studying you'll need to do. You might already have the skills to reach your target score, or you might be 300 points away.
I suggest that you take a free official practice test (https://www.mba.com/the-gmat/download-fr ... tware.aspx) and go from there.

Cheers,
